Welcome, beta testers!

There is some information you need to know before you download the beta demo of Alluvium. First of all, this application is online a demonstration of the technical capabilities of the project. It does not contain a production user interface or many features you'd expect in a final release. It's the technology we're releasing, not a real application.

In order to try the demo, you're going to need some other software. First, you'll need Java 1.4 or later. With this is bundled Java Web Start, which is used to launch the application. Once you have these installed, you can launch the demo by just clicking on this link. Please not that there is no stream playing at the moment. This page will be updated when a new stream is available.

The application will give you the option of listening to a music station or a live broadcast of CodeCon. The live broadcast will only be available while CodeCon is happening, approximately 12:00PM to 6:00PM EST, Saturday through Monday. The music should be available around the clock from Saturday until Monday.

Once you've selected a stream, you'll need an audio player which supports Ogg Vorbis in order to listen to it. For Linux, XMMS supports Ogg Vorbis out of the box. For Windows, WinAmp should suffice. For OS X, currently only ogg123 is available as part of the vorbis-tools package from the unstable distribution of Fink.

After you've finished listening to the stream, you can exit the application by closing the application window. Currently you must close the application and restart it in order to switch streams (it's only a demo after all).

If you like the concept behind Alluvium, please consider donating to the project. Donations go to the Foundation for Decentralization Research, a 501(c)3-pending non-profit organization supporing peer-to-peer research projects such as Alluvium.
